Chiropractic for Runners

Dec 13, 2018

Running is an extremely beneficial exercise that challenges the cardiovascular system while simultaneously working a large number of muscles in the body.  It creates a feeling inside the body that can almost become addicting.  The downside is that it can also lead to a lot of repetitive stress injuries involving the muscles and joints of the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and back.

The most common recommendation with these running injuries would be to rest, ice, and use medications in order to decrease inflammation and allow the body to heal.  While that may be ideal it is typically not realistic as most runners will continue to run so long as they are nothing short of losing a limb.   That being said, it is important to know that there are other alternative options out there that  can be just as effective as traditional recommendations.

Chiropractic treatment offers a hands on approach to help minimize musculoskeletal imbalances and joint restriction that can contribute to overuse injuries.  This proper balance promotes increased motion in the joints and reduces stress and strain on the surrounding muscles.  In addition, our physicians also incorporate Active Release Technique (ART) to help limit the build up of scar tissue and adhesions within the muscles which are also a product of repetitive stress.  This combination of therapy gets great results for runners and can be a valuable part of maintenance for runners, limiting repetitive stress and injury.
